U.S. Tariffs & Checkout CostsUpdated 10 days ago
1. Why am I seeing a tariff charge at checkout if I’m in the U.S.?
As of April 2025, the U.S. government has implemented a 10% tariff on certain imports, including apparel and textiles from Peru. Since the majority of our products are crafted in Peru, this tariff affects most of our products. To ensure that we continue to support the people in Peru that make our products possible and our overall mission of uplifting Peruvian communities, we need to pass on part of this cost to our consumers.
2. Is Paka adding this fee, or is it a government charge?
This fee is mandated by the U.S. government and goes directly to cover the imposed tariffs on Peruvian imports. Paka does not retain any portion of this charge. Our goal is to be transparent about these costs. If the tariffs are removed or reduced we will adjust this charge to reflect those changes.
3. Why does Paka continue to source products from Peru despite these tariffs?
Our mission is deeply rooted in supporting Peruvian artisans and utilizing the unique qualities of alpaca fiber native to the region. While the tariffs present challenges, we remain committed to our partnerships and the communities we support in Peru. We believe in the value of ethically sourced, high-quality products and the importance of sustaining the livelihoods of our artisan partners.
4. Why is Paka charging me a 3% tariff surcharge when the tariff rate on Peruvian imports is at 10%?
We have calculated what we believe is a fair percentage of the total tariff costs to Paka to ask our customers to absorb. The 3% represents a portion of the costs we are incurring from the tariffs. We are absorbing the balance and are not asking our Partners in Peru to absorb any of these costs at this time.
5. Are you planning to also raise prices to help cover tariffs?
By adding this tariff charge at checkout, we’re choosing to keep our product prices consistent while staying transparent with our community about where their dollars are going. Listing the tariff as a separate charge gives us the flexibility to adjust or remove it in the future if government-imposed tariffs are lifted or reduced. Our goal is to balance fairness with sustainability — for both our customers and our partners in Peru.
